On the 25th of March 2026, 51 participants from all over the world joined the 3rd UVMIS CoP session on Olympic volunteering. With reference to the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games, experienced volunteer managers discussed volunteer management challenges with international volunteers’ high expectations and volunteer management systems. Experienced volunteers shared the need for meaningful training for volunteers and volunteer managers to be experienced volunteers. The discussion highlighted the importance of human-centered management, better technology systems, more practical operational training, and professionalizing volunteer management through possibly formal qualifications. Participants also discussed balancing between international and local volunteers, with legacy building and cultural pride in mind.
